Frequently Asked Questions

Is 9kt gold real gold?

Yes, 9kt gold is real gold. It is made of 37.5% pure gold (375 parts per thousand) blended with other metals for strength. The alloy makes it harder and more scratch-resistant than 22kt or 18kt, which is exactly what makes 9kt gold ideal for everyday wear.

What does 9kt gold mean?

9kt gold, also written as 9K, 9 carat or 9ct, describes the purity of the gold. Karat measures gold content out of 24, so 9kt contains 9 parts gold to 15 parts other metals, equal to 37.5% pure gold, or a fineness of 375.

Is 9kt gold BIS hallmarked in India?

Yes. In July 2025, 9 carat gold was officially added to India's mandatory BIS hallmarking system, with a minimum fineness of 375. Every Carrots piece is BIS hallmarked to 375 and carries a HUID number, so its purity is government-certified.

Is Carrots jewellery solid gold or gold-plated?

Carrots jewellery is solid 9kt gold, never gold-plated. There is no thin gold layer over a base metal, so there is nothing to wear off. The gold is consistent throughout the piece, which is why the colour stays true for years.

Why is 9kt gold more affordable than 22kt gold?

9kt gold contains 37.5% pure gold, compared with around 91.6% in 22kt gold, so it costs much less per gram while still being genuine, hallmarked gold. Buying direct from Carrots, with no showroom or middleman markups, keeps prices lower still.

Will 9kt gold tarnish, fade or change colour?

Because Carrots pieces are solid gold and not plated, they will not flake or lose their colour the way gold-plated jewellery does. It may dull over time because 9kt gold is 37.5% pure gold mixed with other metals, which can react with sweat, perfume, or chemicals. Keep it away from lotions and harsh chemicals, and store it dry when not worn.

Is 9kt gold good for daily wear?

Yes, 9kt gold is one of the best choices for daily wear. Its harder alloy resists scratches and dents better than higher-karat gold, and our lightweight designs are comfortable enough to wear all day, every day, from work to evening.

Is 9kt gold good for sensitive skin?

Solid 9kt gold is generally a kinder everyday choice than plated jewellery, because there is no coating to wear away and expose base metal, and every Carrots piece is quality-checked for a smooth, skin-friendly finish. If you have a known nickel allergy, contact us and we will help you choose.

Can I wear my 9kt gold jewellery in water or the shower?

Occasional contact with water will not harm solid gold, but it is best to avoid wearing it in the shower, pool or sea. Chlorine, saltwater, soap and chemicals can dull the shine over time and may affect delicate settings, so remove pieces before swimming.

How do I know my Carrots jewellery is genuine gold?

Every Carrots piece carries the BIS hallmark, the 375 fineness mark, and a unique HUID number stamped on the metal. The HUID lets you verify authenticity and purity, so you have proof of genuine gold in your hands with every order.

What jewellery does Carrots sell?

Carrots offers lightweight 9kt solid gold jewellery for everyday wear, including rings, earrings, hoops, necklaces, chains, pendants, pendant sets, initial pendants, bracelets and couple rings, with dedicated collections for women, men, unisex styles and kids.

Is 9kt gold a good investment, and does it have resale value?

9kt gold contains real gold, so it has genuine intrinsic value, though less per gram than higher-karat gold. Carrots pieces are designed first and foremost to be worn and enjoyed every day, rather than as a bullion investment, while still being authentic, hallmarked gold.

How should I care for my 9kt gold jewellery?

Keep it away from perfume, lotion, sweat and harsh chemicals, take it off before swimming or showering, and store each piece separately in a dry pouch to avoid scratches. Wipe it gently with a soft cloth to maintain its shine.

Does Carrots deliver across India?

Yes, Carrots ships 9kt solid gold jewellery across India, and every order arrives BIS hallmarked so you can verify purity on delivery. For current delivery timelines and our returns and exchange policy, please see our terms and conditions or contact our team.

How do I find my correct ring or jewellery size?

Use the Carrots size calculator to find your fit before ordering. For rings, you can also measure a ring you already wear, or wrap a strip of paper around your finger and measure it in millimetres against a size chart. If you are between sizes, size up.

Can I buy 9kt gold jewellery as a gift?

Absolutely. Lightweight, hallmarked real gold makes a meaningful and lasting gift, and pieces like initial pendants, dainty chains and gold studs are especially popular. If you are unsure what to choose, a Carrots gift card lets the recipient pick their own piece.

Why should I choose Carrots over other gold jewellery brands?

Carrots gives you real 9kt solid gold (not plating), BIS hallmarked on every piece including items under 2 grams, in lightweight modern designs built for daily wear. Because we sell direct to consumer, you get genuine gold at honest prices, backed by the trust standards of India's biggest legacy jewellers.
